We returned to the sea! We had one more opportunity to go out, as the wind gave some truces and the sea calmed down a little bit.
Today we started our trip with a large group of common dolphins 😊 This group was a little spread out and it looked like some of these dolphins were eating their breakfast. We often use sea birds, such as seagulls, to be able to find dolphins. When dolphins are hunting, they often leave a lot of leftovers of fish on the surface and seagulls do not lose this opportunity to have breakfast too.
Our lookout gave us an indication to go out a little more as he had seen another group of dolphins. As we got closer, we started to realize that we had more and more common dolphins, but these were already adult animals. Suddenly we looked to the right side of the boat and we saw something different… a very very small flying fish.
After observing this group of common dolphins, we made a trip closer to the coast because the sea started to get a little rougher. In the way back to Ponta Delgada we found more common dolphins. We can then say that the common dolphins were the stars of our trip and one of the most sighted species of this year 2020… until 😀
During this morning, while some of our sea staff was on a whale and dolphin watching trip, others stayed in our shop, in the marina of Ponta Delgada, practicing first aid exercises. It was a very productive and interesting morning for everyone!
The forecast for the next few days looks very good, so fingers crossed for our whale watching tours to be full of different species. Do you want to join us?
