This experience will take you to know one of the most beautiful places in São Miguel Island, Sete Cidades Lake.

In the morning time, around 8:30 a.m. the meeting point is at our shop in Portas do Mar to go for a whale and dolphin watching tour. The Azores are a unique place for whale watching and year-round you can encounter 28 cetacean species passing by our waters. There are resident species such as sperm whales, bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins, and Risso’s dolphins. During the springtime, the baleen whale season starts and you can see some of the biggest whales in the world here.

Before we go to the ocean our marine biologist team prepare a briefing that will explain a lot of rules and information on what to expect from the animals. After the big sea adventure you will have lunch in Ponta Delgada at a local restaurant and then a jeep tour to Sete Cidades.

Sete Cidades is a volcanic complex full of lakes for you to discover. It’s one of Portugal’s Seven Wonders and you cannot miss the views over the rim of the crater. It’s even funnier to do it in a jeep!

Before we return to Ponta Delgada, we stop at Ponta da Ferraria, when the tide is low, so you can enjoy a bath with naturally warm water from the ocean.

Q: What is the sea water temperature?
A: In summer it reaches 24˚C and in winter is not lower than 16˚C. When the tide is low the water temperature varies between 30ºC and 50ºC, depending how close you are to the volcanic crack.
