Fogo Lake is one of the most pristine and beautiful natural places in São Miguel Island. Fogo volcano collapsed and created this lake of unique beauty. The lake is surrounded by endemic vegetation and its water is extremely clear. The blue has perfect gradients that create a spectacular natural view.
This tour starts at 8:30 am in Portas do Mar, Ponta Delgada harbour in our activity center. You will go on a whale and dolphin watching tour where you can see some of the 28 different cetacean species that pass by Azorean waters.
This experience is always in the company of our team of marine biologists. In the beginning, they will explain some safety rules and how we usually approach the animals.
After the tour, it is lunchtime in Ponta Delgada in a local restaurant and in the afternoon you will be joining a jeep tour to Fogo Lake.
We will start this land tour in Ribeira Grande and its beautiful green landscapes where both sides of São Miguel Island will be shown. The viewpoints of Fogo lake are one of the most important parts of the experience. Here, on the top of the mountain, you can see the most astonishing views over the sleeping volcano and its blueish lake. This location is classified as a Conservation Reserve.
Before returning to Ponta Delgada we will stop in Caldeira Velha for a hot bath in the geothermal area. This is a true spa at open air in the middle of a lush forest.

FOGO LAKE
This blue lake is about 2 km long and 1 km wide. It fills the ground of an extinct crater formed during a volcanic eruption.
