3 HOUR TOUR
Pico Island

HALF DAY
WHALE WATCHING PICO ISLAND

Pico Island is where the highest mountain of Portugal is located: Mount Pico, which is 2,351 meters high. Also, Pico’s vineyard are classified as UNESCO Patrimony since 2004.

Lajes do Pico harbor is where we start our whale and dolphin watching adventure. It is possible to watch 28 cetacean species around the Azores archipelago. During Springtime, you can see baleen whales such as Blue whale, Fin whale and Sei whale. In the Summertime, in addition to our resident species, you can also see spotted dolphins, pilot whales, beaked whales and sometimes also Bryde’s whales.

The Azores are distinguished as one of the best destinations in the world for whale and dolphin watching and that is why we always say it is a must-do experience, at least once in your life.

Our marine biologists and nature guides will give a briefing to tell you all you need to know about whale watching in the Azores. Then, they will take you out on the ocean for about 3 hours to spot some of the cetacean species present here in the Azores.

Q: How do I get to Pico Island?
A: There are flight connections from Lisbon (with Azores Airlines). You can also fly from São Miguel or Terceira Island. Also, if you prefer you can fly to Faial Island and then go to Pico by boat all year round. To book for the ferry for all the other Islands, you can do it through Atlanticoline or in our shop in Portas do Mar, Ponta Delgada.

Q:  Can I join this tour if I have back problems?
A: Futurismo Azores Whale Watching in Pico Island only has a zodiac boat, which is less spacious than the catamarans we have in São Miguel Island. We do recommend you to have some medical advice before booking.

Q: I am pregnant and would like to do whale watching. Is it possible?
A: In this situation, we strongly advise to go on the catamarans because they are more comfortable and stable. In Pico Island, we only have a zodiac boat, so it is not the best option.

Q: Does Futurismo provide equipment in case of bad weather?
A: Yes, we provide waterproof jackets and trousers for the boat trip if necessary.

Q: What if I don’t see any cetacean during the tour?
A: Nature offers no guarantee and sometimes, even though it is rare, it happens that you won’t see any cetacean. In this case, Futurismo will allow you to book another tour for free to try your luck again.
