Today the sun was shining, however, the sea conditions were a bit rough and our guests proved to be very good sailors! 😀

After looking for a while, we finally found some common dolphins. Today they were approaching our boat and our guests got to see the beautiful grey and yellow pattern that differentiates these dolphins from others, here in the Azores. We also explained to our guests the study we started last year on common dolphins using the marks on the dorsal fins that were presented as a poster on the World Marine Mammal Conference, some of them found it interesting and even asked to see the final poster.

We tried to find other species, but unfortunately, we weren’t so lucky. When we were coming back to Ponta Delgada we found a bigger group of common dolphins that were socialising a lot and we also got to see some of them belly to belly, a behaviour that means they’re mating. After a while, we started going back to Ponta Delgada. Hopefully, soon we’ll get to see some whales!
