Our lasts trips at sea were pretty amazing. We had very good sightings of fin whales and sei whales, travelling slowly under the surface and giving us many opportunities to enjoy their magnificent beauty when coming to the surface for a few deep breaths.
The rich marine biodiversity of the Azores allowed us to admire the beautiful colors of a Portuguese man-o-war, but also to see the most common marine reptile in the Azores, the loggerhead turtle, floating peacefully at the surface, trying to warm up her blood through the sun heat.
We tried our hydrophone and were able to hear echolocation from some sperm whales around, who informed us that they were close! After looking for them for a while, the first typically inclined blow was spotted and we had then the opportunity to observe three different individuals, from whom we took a few photos of their flukes just before they dived, in order to improve our research work.

We also encountered some peaceful Risso’s dolphins and we were many times surrounded by many curious and powerful common dolphins! !
