What a fantastic day! Today São Miguel woke up whit a fabulous sunny morning! The water was really calm and the visibility was incredible! We started the trip with a group of common dolphins very close to the coast. They were bowriding and moving around the catamaran. Afterwards we stopped with another group of the same species of dolphins. Our guests could recognize them because of the two yellow sides.
Suddenly, we received some news from the lookouts that we needed to travel further because they spotted 4 whales blowing. We arrived to this area and we saw them! They were fin whales! The second biggest whale species on Earth! At the beginning they were really close, we could even see one of them rolling and with the belly up. It was awesome!
At the end they decided to spread out a little bit, so we decided to leave them and started our come back travel to Ponta Delgada. During this time our guests observed the whole island and enjoyed this beautiful day! Please, whales and sun remain with us tomorrow for a great whale and dolphin watching trip!
In the afternoon common dolphins were around too. We tried the hydrophone in order to listen sperm whales, but before we could even react, one of our lookouts found a humpback whale! She was diving continuously, dives of 10 to 15 minutes, and she showed her tail twice! We will check our photos and try to recognize this whale.. Would it be a new one for us?
