3 Hour Tour
Rabo de Peixe

HALF DAY
WHALE & DOLPHIN WATCHING NORTH COAST

Our whale and dolphin watching center in Clube Naval de Rabo de Peixe, on the North Coast of São Miguel Island is the ideal place to start the perfect whale and dolphin watching adventure.

The north coast is where the whales swim closer to the shore. This means that you are practically guaranteed a cetacean sighting.

Before your trip, you will have a short briefing with our marine biologists. They will also explain which species you might see, the safety rules aboard and how we should respect the animals. During about 3 hours, you will try to spot cetaceans in the Atlantic Ocean with the help of our biologists and nature guides.

Join us for the ultimate adventure!

Q: Is it possible to see whales and dolphins on every tour?
A: Every tour is a surprise. We are dealing with wildlife. But we offer you a guarantee: If you do not see whales either dolphins, we will arrange a new tour for you, absolutely free.

Q: Can I join this tour if I have back problems?
A: We do recommend you to have some medical advice before this experience and to book the tour on a catamaran.

Q: How do I get to São Miguel?
A: There are flight connections from Lisbon, Porto and other main capitals.

Q: Can I do this tour if I am pregnant?
A: In this situation, we advise the catamarans, which are more comfortable and stable than zodiacs. Please inform us about any medical situation for better advise.

Q: What species of cetaceans will I see during this tour and what is the best season for whale watching in the Azores?
A: There are four different resident species in the Azores: the sperm whales, Risso’s dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and common dolphins. They are present all year round. The best season for whale and dolphin watching in the Azores is Springtime – March to June – because baleen whales are migrating and passing by our waters. During this time of the year, it is possible to see blue whales, fin whales, and Sei whales among others. The summertime is also ideal to spot pilot whales, beaked whales or spotted dolphins for example.
