A morning full of animals and wind!
Our first surprise of today was a resident species, a sperm whale. It was hard to find it but we arrived on time to see its enormous tail. Sperm whales show the tail when they go for a deep dive in order to feed. While we were waiting for more information from the look outs, we could listen some more individuals thanks to the hydrophone. We went to that area were we found around four sperm whales, one of them approaching to our boat, what an amazing sighting! After seeing its tail, the look outs guided us to another area where we found four more individuals, there was an adult female with a juvenile and a really small calf! The adults, once again, showed its tails before diving.
We continued our trip and we managed to find the resident group of Risso’s dolphin! We could recognise some of them thanks to the marks on their skin. They were very curious at first, but then, suddenly disappeared.
Just before coming back to Ponta Delgada, we were close to the shore enjoying the beautiful views when some common dolphins appeared, we could see some of them just before they went, they were travelling very fast. We have been so fortunate to see all these animals! Just before the wind got stronger!
