Paradise is in the Azores! Sei Whales, dolphins and Manta Rays

What a day full of surprises! The waves were pretty rough today, but even still we have had some amazing sightings!

First of all we saw a school of Risso’s dolphins. Risso’s dolphins are a resident species but it’s quite difficult to spot them because they are very shy, even though we could be with them for 15 minutes or so.

Then, when we were heading to see a Sei whale, we had to do a stopover because there was something very special in front of us… A group of Manta rays! They are typically found in tropical and subtropical waters, but they can also be spotted in temperate waters, those animals are elasmobranch like sharks but you don’t have to worry about them because they feed on zooplankton in the form of shrimp and krill.

After this amazing encounter, we resumed our journey to spot the amazing Sei whales. This time, we could spot 2 adult Sei whales resting on the surface, they even seemed to enjoy our presence and company!

After having a good time with the whales we headed to the harbor and on our way to Ponta Delgada we met with a very playful school of Atlantic spotted dolphins that have been bowriding, mating and playing in front of us for a while!

An awesome morning full of surprises so don’t miss your chance to join us on our next whale watching tour!
