Lots of dolphins and a group of sperm whales

Wow what a wonderful summer day in São Miguel!  Sun, blue sky, flat sea and lots of marine life!

When we left the harbour, soon we saw a solitary bottlenose dolphin, which is not very common.  We still waited a bit in the area but the group did not appear.

As we continued on the journey we encountered a huge group of Atlantic spotted dolphins .  Many dolphins and many calves, very calm and curious about the boats.

Upon receiving the look out warning, we left the dolphin zone and quickly managed to spot some blows in the distance!  What a surprise to see that they were sperm whales!  We started by seeing two adult females and one calf that showed the tail in synchronization and in total we were able to see about 6 different individuals!

Luckily for us, there was a group of spotted dolphins that kept us company while the sperm whales were diving, so we spent a lot of time with dolphins and whales!

It was a dreamy morning and for the next few days the conditions remain very favorable for the sighting of our giants! Shall we try together?
