Today was the first trip after covid-19 quarantine started here in the Azores! The sea conditions were great, despite being cloudy and the visibility was very good! We saw a lot of Cory’s shearwater during the whole trip.
After travelling for quite a bit, we had our first sighting, a huge group of common dolphins, one of the resident species here in the Azores. We really missed them! They were very curious and playful as they approached to our catamaran. They were bowriding and jumping very close and there was some signs of mating just as if nothing had changed!
Then, we started looking for another species as our lookouts spotted a bigger animal, but we couldn’t see it. Those things happen, we are working with wild animals, we are guests in their home and sometimes it is hard to see them.
Returning to Ponta Delgada, we were very lucky to see some flying fishes! It has been a nice start and we just can’t wait to return to the sea!
