Dolphin entangled, sperm whales and active dolphins

dolphin entangled

Great conditions on the water today. Some Common Dolphins came to check our boat out and circled several times around us and we saw them clearly through the surface.

Then we had a nice encounter with bow-riding Bottlenose Dolphins but as they were so close we also realized something unpleasant. One of the bow-riding dolphins had fishing gear entangled around its beak. We already noticed this same individual two days ago but this time we managed to get good pictures of it. These kinds of incidents are not just very painful often also lethal especially when they are hindering the animals to feed and the affected part gets infected.

After this sad moment, we headed to two sperm whales. One was resting for a good while at the surface and the second one which was going for a shallow dive when we arrived turned out to be a familiar one called Orca which showed us its tail when it went for a deep dive.

The rib was seeing two more Sperm Whales, one of them was identified as Bear Paw. Then we observed the Atlantic Spotted Dolphins feeding and mating and our way back we came across more Common Dolphins and a leaping tuna in a flock of birds.
