Let’s enjoy the company of our resident common dolphins

After a rainy sunrise, the weather got better and we went to the sea. The ocean was calm and despite the cloudy sky the temperature was good.

Thanks to the favorable weather conditions we could enjoy diverse groups of one of the most sighted resident species here in the Azores: the common dolphin. The first group was huge and quite spread out, the dolphins were approaching very close to our catamaran, and some of them accompanied us bow-riding in front of the boat, they take advantage of the waves that the boats create in order to save energy to swim and travel.

The second group we found was a little bit smaller, and at first, they were very calm, they were resting, very quite close to the surface, we could appreciate their characteristic coloration very well: dark back, white belly and yellow sides.

Suddenly, we could see a school of fish and some dolphins swimming around it, it could be that they were feeding on them! Today a common dolphin day, let’s see if we see them tomorrow again!
