Today the weather and sea conditions allowed us to go on another whale watching trip. However, the whales didn’t want to show up. On both trips, the species we saw was one of our resident species, the common dolphin.
During the morning they were very tricky, always diving and didn’t want to socialize with us. Eventually we found a group of 6 individuals that were in a calmer behaviour and we saw them really well. It’s not often that the common dolphins are calm like today. At some point they were also foraging and we saw a huge school of fish.
In the afternoon, the group we saw was very playful and we saw a couple of them rolling to the side, a behaviour that indicates they’re flirting. To our surprise, we also recognised two dolphins that we have on our common dolphin catalogue which made us very happy.
After that group, we went further away from the island, hoping we could find something. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen so we came back to Ponta Delgada. Even though we didn’t get to see a lot of species, the trip was relaxed and always with a beautiful view of the island with our guests enjoying the sun.
