Today was very chill and cloudy, what gave the sea a dark coloration, making it a bit harder to find the animals, although, despite the conditions, our lookouts gave us indication to head east of the island.
During the trip there, we had the company of a small group of one of our resident species, the common dolphin, swiming alongside us but not interacting that much.
Moments after arriving to the location our lookout pointed, a juvenile Sperm Whale’s blow was spotted, the first of 2020, after just a bit on the surface we stopped seeing him, and a few minutes later we were very lucky to find an adult with its calve in what was very likely a feeding behaviour (mother feeding its calve).
After a few moments the adult dove, returning to its own feeding pattern. Two more sperm whales were seen when we were leaving the area but it was running late and we wanted a bit more time close to dolphins.
We got closer to the Island and our lookout spotted the best pod of dolphins of the morning and they were feeding, our faithfull common dolphins made an entertainig appearance, a group of about 50 individuals aproaching and swiming alongside the boat. It was the perfect way to end our Sunday trip.
