In Pico island, we could see a Risso’s dolphins pod quite close as they calmly and slowly swam in front of our eyes as well as underneath us. Not only our guests could see them but also swim with these impressive dolphins. This males pod was made of about 9 adult individuals, just travelling slowly with bits of social behaviours at the surface, in-between their deep dives.
Sharing the same environment as these aquatic mammals is such a lucky and great experience that fills our hearts with bliss and even more respect for them!
As we were quite close to a group of sperm whales, we were able to finish our swimming with dolphins trip by observing one whale deeply resting at the surface with the beautiful Pico mountain on the back and finally showing the tail to go for a dive!
There was also a huge turtle by its side, catching some warming sun rays.
