Today was an adventure day. Out there it was quite windy and with little visibility however, it didn’t stop us from facing the waves. With a lot of patience and the great help of our lookouts we arrived to our first Sperm whale.
Unfortunately, the sperm whale went for a feeding dive showing the tail just as we arrived. When the sperm whales do this kind of dive, it means that they are going to stay a underwater for a long time, searching for prey. Here in the Azores they usually spend an average of 40-45 minutes underwater. So this morning we waited for the animal but we couldn´t find it anymore. After waiting some time, we started our return to Ponta Delgada. On the way, we got lucky to see two sperm whales, spotted by the captain on board; one adult and one juvenile, and they showed us their tails again.
