Today the sky was pretty cloudy but we had a really nice day at sea! The lookouts informed us about a sei whale on sight, and after traveling towards the East for a while we saw a huge blow in front of us! This sei whale seemed a little shy and was surprising us with its blows appearing on different sides every time, but we managed to see its dorsal fin several times, and even a little bit of the tail which we normally don’t see very often in this species!
After spending some time with the whale, we decided to leave it alone as it wasn’t very interested in our company. But soon after, we saw a large group of our resident species – the bottlenose dolphins! They were really active and we were lucky to enjoy many acrobatic jumps. There’s no need to go to captive dolphin shows – it’s much nicer to see them jumping in the wild, voluntarily, and surrounded by their families!
We saw one individual with a very specific beak – its upper jaw was much shorter than the lower one, and we immediately thought about our well-known dolphin named Max. However, after we got back and checked it, it seemed more like Mr. Grey. What do you think? You can read more about our bottlenose dolphin photo-identification work .

After spending plenty of time surrounded by many dolphin fins all around, we headed back to Ponta Delgada bringing nice memories of our sightings. If you want to join us on one of our adventures, book your trip!
