Every day is unique, no repetitions on the water.

In a choppy sea with some wind, we headed out to the sperm whale zone which our lookouts made out for us. We crossed the way of Cory’s shearwaters, black-headed gulls and a great skua.

Then we were in the vicinity of the biggest predators of the world. We caught several glimpses of the majestic sperm whales. At least two of them seemed to be big males which had an impressive size, as they are notably bigger than the females when they are fully grown.

It is more often that we observe group of females, so it is always something special to see a male, which is longer and much heavier then the RIB we went out with.

The skilled observers from land where quick in discovering the individuals which were or in a couple or spread over the area. Even these dislocating animals came only up for a few breaths before the went down to calmer conditions underneath the surface again we happened to be there several times at the right place at the right time when they oxygenated their bodies with fresh air.

While waiting in between we got a visit from the curious common dolphins which played in our bow and surfed the waves. Different age classes could be found among this colourful dolphins.

After the friendly companions continued their way we got more chance to watch blow, head and back of a sperm whale male from different perspectives as he appeared around us, even coming towards us at one time. Pleased with the chances we got to observe the brief moments which the record holders in deep sea diving spent at the surface today we made our way back where we enjoyed even more highlights.

Fishermen presented us proudly their catch – a ray! As more common dolphins showed up we stopped again and enjoyed the group with their calves for a while before saying goodbye to them.

March started very well, so hope there will follow much more chances to welcome YOU on board of Futurismo!
