Today Ponta Delgada woke up a little bit cloudy and rainy, however we were able to see 3 species .
We started the morning with a few individuals of Risso´s dolphins, the same group that we could see last week with a really white mom and her grey calf.
We headed south to encounter a magnificent group of Common dolphins, at least more than hundred.
In this group we noticed there was a striped dolphin, as seen in this picture:
They were very active, bowriding and travelling really fast. To end on our way back to Ponta Delgada some of our boats used our hydrophone to track the Sperm whales. They managed to hear them and found the area. Just on time we finally watched them fluking before we had to go back.
We enjoyed the female called Penakabe and a juvenile of the group we met the last weeks. In the afternoon all our boats spread in different directions to increase our chances to find any whales but they already left the area so we could not even hear their clicks with the hydrophone. After a long search we finally found a big group of common dolphins which approached the different boats which were spread in a bigger zone. So even with rain clouds and poor visibility we had nice encounters with these cetaceans.
