Today on Pico Island we went out to the ocean despite the conditions not being the best due to the evolution of the wind. Apart from the fact that weather conditions are not the most favorable, our great help on land was able to detect animals.
When we got close to the place where the lookout spotted the first sperm whale, with the help of the hydrophone we could hear the echolocation clicks that seemed to be in an area very close to us.
After some time of waiting, our skipper saw a sperm whale. We approached the animal that emerged, and, after resting for a while on the surface, dived again in the depths, showing its impressive tail.
After some time, the lookout saw another blow relatively close to the area where we were and as we got closer we saw a female sperm whale with a calf moving to the Southeast before diving in that direction.
During our trip we also saw many cory’s shearwater who were looking for food, and several ones feeding on a school of small fish.
Unfortunately due to the sea condition and no dolphins in the area, it was not possible for our swimming with dolphins guests to enter the water to swim with them.
