Sei whale still around in São Miguel!

The waves were pretty rough today, but this didn’t mean we wouldn’t manage to have a great day with some amazing sightings!

We had a really strong beggining of our trip, with a group of Atlantic spotted dolphins together with our iconic birds – Cory’s shearwaters, as well as a feeding sei whale, the third largest animal in the world, in the middle of this! The whale opened its huge mouth right in front of our catamaran and we could see the mouth get filled with heaps of fish!

We were watching the feeding whale and when we finally decided to move on and spend more time next to dolphins, the whale just didn’t seem to let us go. Our boat was moving with the whale swimming right by its side, going all together towards the group of dolphins. The dolphin group was large, with plenty of babies jumping around our boat! Meanwhile, the whale just kept surprising us with its huge blows.

Finally we said goodbye to the whale and left enjoying around a hundred of Atlantic spotted dolphins surrounding us and doing some impressive jumps.
The rough sea surely didn’t ruin our day and we came back happy to Ponta Delgada. Join us next time!
