Our Red Group of sperm whales, a Sei whale and more!

What a day full of surprises! The weather was unexpectedly good; sunny day, no waves, no wind… It took a little bit to find the first group of animals, is part of working with nature and wild animals, but the waiting increased our will and excitement while looking for them, we didn’t know that the sea was so full of life today.

Our first sighting was a relaxed and calm sei whale, the third largest species in the world, it was travelling alone and slow, showing its presence with blows.

After leaving the whale area, we found an amazing group of Atlantic spotted dolphins, the group was very curious, jumping and bow-riding, but what made this group so special was that there were new born dolphins everywhere, they made everyone’s day with their jumps!

Our last surprise was a pod of sperm whales! We could identify three adult females and two calves! One of the females was “Orca”, a well known sperm whale due to its special coloration, that feature helps us to easily tell her apart from the others since it is so unique, by photo-identification we were also able to identify one more sperm whale, “Left Tip”, both of these whales are part of the Red Group, which is a well known family os sperm whales. This sighting was also special because the calves were so social and playfull, slapping with the tail, we could even see some jumps and the head of one of them!

An awesome morning full of surprises and life in the deep blue atlantic ocean.
