Today, we were with a numerous and active group of bottlenose dolphins, bowriding constantly, jumping high and chasing each other quite fast! The main behaviour observed was socializing and even some mating happening really close to our catamaran Cetus. They really delighted us with an impressive show that left a mark in our minds.
Again, we were able to spot Egipcio and Submarino in this pod. We sighted these two individuals together quite frequently and they often move in this giant group. These two dolphins are quite easy to identify from the boat because their dorsal fins have very particular shapes. There are different possible causes for these dorsal fin shapes. Nowadays, the threats for marine mammals in the ocean are many, such as collisions with boat propellers, ghost nets roaming around in the water or even accidental fishing. Of course, these unique dorsal fin shapes can also be due to congenital malformations.
