Our day started with a small and fast group of common dolphins that despite the small numbers still impressed our guests with some bowriding and by simply being present!
As we left the group and started to travel faster our lookouts told us to turn around facing the Eastern Part of São Miguel because he had seen 2 big whales… After about an hour of travel we finally got to the area of the whales but unfortunately they were performing long dives and our lookout did not know what direction they had taken.
After waiting patiently they appeared, the much appreciated huge blows of the massive fin whales! Finally some more baleen whales in March and hopefully they will start appearing regularly for our guests and also for the amusement of the crew! They allowed us to see them very well, taking their time close to the surface so for us to see the colours of the whales and the dimensions of them, leaving everyone in awe!
Only thing missing is the return of the flat seas around the islands but in the meantime we take every chance we get to go searching for these wonderful animals.
