False killer whales today during our whale watching trip!

Amazing encounter off the coast of São Miguel island!
This morning, we went out in the ocean without knowing for certain what we would find and we had an amazing encounter (or many encounters!) in the same area. The animals gave us a moment that could be in a nature documentary.

First, we found bottlenose dolphins, one of our resident species here in the Azores and then, while the biologists were talking about this species, suddenly showed up some false killer whales

A bit later, showed up a third species we spotted in this area: the common dolphins,  another one of our residents.

So, we had three species of cetaceans in the exact same area!  It smelt like fish, probably tuna, so maybe the animals were simply having lunch there! We could say that we saw a true feeding festival 😉
