Bottlenose and Common Dolphins in São Miguel

After a week of “summer”, today unfortunately the day came when the sun did not want to appear. We left for the sea in the morning in a zodiac, with a sea still calm but very cold! We quickly found common dolphins feeding. At the beginning they were not very curious but, in the end, they changed their behavior and delighted our customers. We tried our luck with the hydrophone but couldn’t hear anything anymore.

At the afternoon, we left on a catamaran and tried to go to the area where we had been with the common dolphins in the morning, and the truth is that they were still there! We saw a small group, spread out and doing very long dives, so the observation was not easy. We decided to leave the area and continue on our journey and what was our surprise when we managed to find a small group of bottlenose dolphins that, unfortunately quickly disappeared.

The afternoon was cold and the sea was already more rough, but everyone liked to see two of our resident species.
