In the morning we managed to find a small group of bottlenose dolphins
and a big pod of Atlantic spotted dolphins feeding, despite swell and rain over
the land. The clouds often rain out over the island, so São Miguels name “the green island” fits well. On the ocean we stayed mainly dry. It was a joy to see all the Cory’s shearwaters and some great shearwaters looking for fish among the numerous dolphins. Some youngsters preferred to ride our bow instead of taking part of
the feeding frenzy. We enjoyed some leaps and their company. In the afternoon mother nature was not as generous. There are moments were we have to be pleased with the ocean view at the island or the seabirds which are not hiding beneath the waves. But there will be another chance on an other day!
