Are we seeing new sperm whales in São Miguel?

Sunshine, blue ocean and happy people on board were the start of today’s trip. Shortly after we encountered Bottlenose Dolphins. It seemed to be a different group then yesterday as we recognized Mr. Grey an individual with a crossed jaw, lower jaw and upper jaw are not on top of each other. So the injured one with the fishing line entangled around its beak we tried to help yesterday on the coastal trip was not seen today.

The catamaran went afterwards to the sperm whale area. Our first sight was a lot of water in the air and shortly after we witnessed in the distance a tail throw, what means the second half of the body was quickly moved through the air and when hitting the water surface there is a big splash and sound which they use for communication among each others. As we came closer we found three females separately, fluking one after the other before they went again feeding. One of them even fluked twice in a row which happens from time to time to seemingly give a second chance to take a picture. So far this group is apparently not included in our catalogue yet, that’s why we could not yet identify the group or the individuals.

The rib went into another direction to see a group of spotted dolphins with a lot of fish balls after seeing twice Bottlenose Dolphins and then Mr. Liable our most sighted Sperm Whale.
