What a wonderful day! Sun shining, calm seas and amazing animals in Azorean waters! First of all we saw pilot whales. The third time this year. Once in January, another time a few days ago, and today! How lucky we are! Very nice group, calm, with big males, females and juveniles. We took a lot of photos thinking about Ramona, one of our latest biologists who is working now on her Msc. thesis about pilot whales.
Then we went to see some dolphins. But it was not just dolphins. It was an amazing feeding frenzy! Bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic spotted dolphins and hundreds of shearwaters and seagulls! Fish escaping from all the predators… and we were witnessing this amazing show! Right time, right place and amazing conditions. At least a couple of hundred dolphins, most of them Atlantic spotted dolphins.
However we have paid special attention to the bottlenose to try to get as many photos as possible thinking about our biologist Rita Catalão, who is doing her Msc. thesis with this species. You can check her work here.
