Sandrina RodriguesToday we had beautiful weather and some amazing sightings on our tours as well! Soon after we left from the port, our lookouts informed us about a sei whale nearby together with a group of migratory Atlantic spotted dolphins. In a few moments, we saw all of them feeding, with many Cory’s shearwaters flying around as well! Then, it seemed like we couldn’t see the sei whale anymore… Until it surprised all of us with it’s blow right next to our boat! That moment of suddenly seeing the third largest animal in the world right by your side really got everyone’s hearts racing! The whale seemed curious about our boat and was circling around for quite a while. Then it started feeding and showed us its mouth – not something you can see every day! Although most of the attention was on the whale, we could also see plenty of jumping dolphins.
Finally we decided to move on and try to see a sperm whale. Although the catamaran couldn’t find it, thanks to the hydrophone, the zodiac boat achieved to see a big male sperm whale and its tail!
On our way back, we saw a sei whale and spotted dolphins again. When we started moving, the dolphins were bow-riding and really active, and everyone got plenty of chances to take photos and just enjoy seeing these charismatic animals.
We had a truly beautiful and exciting day!
