Futurismo Biologists TeamToday’s trip was really one of a kind.
After traveling to the West for a while, we were surprised by a family of sperm whales. First we saw two of them, but after a few moments there were more and more blows appearing around us. Sperm whale families are usually comprised of females and their juveniles, and today we were able to observe them interacting with each other.
But that’s not all. We had the opportunity to observe the most anticipated sperm whale behavior that everyone wishes to see – a breach! This is definitely not something you can see every day and we were really lucky. Whales are thought to breach for different reasons, some of them are communication, playtime or simply getting rid of parasites.
In the meantime, a group of curious bottlenose dolphins joined us and the sperm whales. What a sight!
To finish, we had another amazing encounter with bottlenose dolphins on our way back – a group that was very playful and delighted everyone aboard. It was a great end of our trip.
On our zodiac boat, we also saw Another species for today: some Atlantic spotted dolphins!
