Two species of dolphins and sea birds

March started in the best way possible, with our boats out on the sea!

As we left the harbour this morning, the lookouts had already told us that a lot of dolphins were ranging from outside of Ponta Delgada to Caloura, so we went to search for them!

We were lucky to find our first group quite quickly as we were going out. They were common dolphins and our guests had the opportunity to see them quite close, as they were curious about the boat and approached us. Some juveniles were also present and they could be easily identified by their smaller size and playfulness.

As we drove further, we discovered another group but this time it was of bottlenose dolphins. About ten different animals were swimming around, between our two catamarans, checking us out and remaining next to us for long enough so that everybody could get a close look at them.

During the trip, we could also see three different species of sea birds: the black-legged kittiwake, the great skua and Cory’s shearwaters. Yet another amazing day at the “office” 😉
