The month of October has started with patches of rain, but also areas of blue sky and calm sea. Today we had swimming with dolphins and our catamaran out on the water for observation. Our swimmers had some fantastic underwater encounters with common dolphins while those on the catamaran encountered the common dolphins and also bottlenose dolphins. The bottlenose dolphins were all displaying a curious behaviour, coming up with their heads very high out of the water, almost vertically, every time they surfaced. This is a behaviour that we are starting to see from more individuals over time, almost as if it is a behaviour that is passed on between individuals. We do not know why they swim like this, but it does allow us to see them better from the boats. Later in the morning our onshore watchman also spotted a small whale, possibly a minke whale but unfortunately when we got the the area there was no sign of it anymore. It just goes to show that nature is always unpredictable…
