Wonderful day in São Miguel to see cetaceans! In the morning we went near Vila Franca do Campo and got to see at least 5 sperm whales really calm and enjoying the sun while they were resting.
We got to see their tails perfectly when they went for a dive but we also saw at least two more tails further away from us.
We then left the area and went to see a group of common dolphins that wanted to find food more than to play with the boats so a few minutes after we started heading home passing near the islet to have a closer look before going to the harbour.

By the afternoon our lookout told us to go near the area of the morning sperm whales and when we got there the sea was calm and the blows were there! Saw a tail when the first one dived and soon after we were told to wait for one to surface…. and amazing! we got not one, not two but three breaches from a juvenile sperm whale!
As it went down we spotted three other animals and one inclusive was whitehead (a known whale to us). We left them to go see a pod of pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins swimming together very calmly. Indeed the summer is coming in the Azores islands!
