Great sightings with glassy waters

big tail mr liable
Today we had a trip only in the morning and we didn’t wanted it to end because all of the time in the sea was amazing!

Our lookout told us as we left the harbour that a male sperm whale was 7 miles out from Ponta Delgada but as we approached the area we saw him diving from a far.

Thankfully, as usual in these past days, a very friendly group of common dolphins were close by so just enough time to go check them out, introduce them as the first species of day while we waited for the whale to surface again.

They quickly surrounded our boats while socializing with each other, bow riding, jumping and travelling at a moderate speed, pretty much riding alongside the boat.

So 20 minutes after we left to return to the area of the whale that took a bit more time than we thought. After he started resting and breathing we saw the glow and the breathing so we approached and were seeing him resting, stretching  and gaining the energy to dive again.

Soon he decide to dive, and everyone loved saying goodbye to Mr Liable since we saw the tail and confirmed it was our famous whale! We are seeing him for over a week here in São Miguel and that is always a good sign that we can sustain, in these waters, such a big animal for this long.
Our lookouts sent us even further from the island to try and spot some suspicions they had and soon enough we found a huge group of spotted dolphins that are enjoying our unusually warm waters at this time of the year!

We tried to travel more and find a whale that our lookouts saw earlier but the only thing we found were more spotted dolphins super curious and slow as we put the engine in neutral and they completely surrounded the boat. Our return was also full of dolphins, good weather and awesome people!
