This past month we have seen 11 cetacean species – 6 dolphin species and 5 whale species!
June has been a great month for whale watching and swimming with dolphins and we have finally had great weather this past month. We have had tours on 28 days of the month and on all of these days we have encountered whales and/or dolphins. Below are our sighting statistics for all of the 11 species we have seen this month:
- Common dolphin (Delphinus delphis) – 93%
- Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) – 54%
- Atlantic spotted dolphin (Stenella frontalis) – 18%
- Striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) -25 %
- Risso’s dolphin (Grampus griseus) -7 %
- Pilot whale (Globicephalus spp.) – 7%
- Beaked whale spp. (Mesoplodon spp.) -4 %
- Sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) – 36%
- Blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) – 11%
- Sei whale (Balaenoptera borealis) – 14%
- Fin whale (Balaenoptera physalis) – 29%
