Dolphins doing their jumping show!

Today, we saw two of our resident species of dolphins. Bottlenose dolphins opened our morning letting us observe a lot of social moments with high jumps and chasing happening all around us.

By now, we are aware that bottlenose dolphins are quite a social species. They aggregate in average sized pods from 10 to 50 dolphins but occasionally and in the last days we have been seeing a giant mixed group, of around 150 dolphins, almost always showing some social behaviour.

Bottlenose dolphins typically aggregate in mixed pods, with juveniles, adult females and adult males all together. Today, we were able to spot lots of juveniles in this pod.

Also in the morning trip, our spotter led us to see a pod common dolphins and in this pod we sighted a really small and beautiful calf right next to an adult individual!

The westerly winds also brought us Portuguese men-o-war and after them, a loggerhead turtle! In the sky, we sighted our dear friends Cory’s shearwaters and also one Macaronesian shearwater. Also, common terns are definitely around by now!
