This afternoon we had a wonderful surprise: a visit from a humpback whale!
It was our second sighting of this species this year and a new adition to our fluke catalogue. Now we are awaiting a response from other contributors to the NAHWC (North Atlantic Humpback Whale Catalogue) to know if this whale has been sighted elsewhere in the North Atlantic in the past. This whale was far to the west of São Miguel Island at the end of the day, so we were lucky to have a very good vigia (coastal lookout) that found the whale for Futurismo’s clients to enjoy. Today we also encountered the same group of bottlenose dolphins from yesterday as well as our faithful common dolphins this morning. What a great day!
