A curious group of bottlenose dolphins today in São Miguel

Today, we had dolphins at sea. We found our resident bottlenose dolphins! They were quite a large group and spread out.

The sea was rough and the winds were cold, but the dolphins seemed to love it! They were racing through the water, riding with the waves, and bow-riding next to our boats!

We even saw them socializing and leaping out of the water multiple times. These beautiful dolphins were not afraid of the waves. In fact, they seem to embrace it, just like we have today!

Today we also managed to see two of our recognized individuals. It was Submarino, a dolphin with a dorsal fin cut horizontally, and Egipcio, a dolphin with a dorsal fin that looks like a pyramid.

As we do photo-identification, (we take pictures of the dorsal fins) we have a catalogue of individual dolphins that visit São Miguel island, and we therefore know some individuals very well, especially when the dorsal fin is cut so obviously like that of Submarino or Egipcio.
This afternoon, the sea was rough, but we got to spend some more time with the same curious group of bottlenose dolphins.
