Familiar whales from last week

Today we had much to see out in the ocean. We started the morning tour with plenty of dolphins, first a big group of Atlantic spotted dolphins, and then from aboard our catamaran we spotted a few bottlenose dolphins before we arrived to an area where our lookout had seen sperm whales. We didn’t have to wait long for a whale and in the end we encountered a big adult who we know as Melia. This whale was very calm so we could see her well as she relaxed at the surface and one rolled over lazily, showing a bit of the tail. We ended the morning nicely with a group of common dolphins closer to shore.

In the afternoon we started with a small group of common dolphins followed by bottlenose dolphins nearby. The bottlenose dolphins were from the familiar group of Bubblemaker. We enjoyed them for a while and then left our swimming clients with them to encounter them underwater. Further out the whales were diving, so we went out to the area and encountered an adult female (named Sussi) at the surface together with a small calf. We were rewarded by seeing Sussi’s tail, and later we encountered a second adult, which was the same whale as the morning (Melia). Again we got to see a nice tail, higher than she showed us in the morning.
