June starts with blue whales

Today we had our first tours of June and we started off in one of the best ways we can think of – with blue whales! These biggest animals of the world pass through the Azores on their migration during the spring months and we are happy that they are still here for us to enjoy. In the morning we had two whales around and in the afternoon we encountered one again, perhaps one from the morning, which analysis of our photos will reveal later. We could see that they have been feeding on krill recently, from the orange colour of the poo left behind on the surface in the morning. We also had common dolphins and bottlenose dolphins present throughout the day, two of our resident dolphin species that always put smiles on our faces. Especially the bottlenose dolphins in the afternoon, as they were socialising. We got to see many jumps from them, as well as spyhopping and belly showing.
