Today we had an amazing morning accompanied by lots of common dolphins and Atlantic spotted dolphins.
They were so many playing with the boats that they were impossible to count! We could say that the sea was full of dolphins. The spotted dolphins were quite curious and surfing the wake of our boat, about 10 in a row.
In the afternoon the wind picked up a bit. Nevertheless, we found the same group of common dolphins as the morning.
Then as we continued, we found about 4 Risso’s dolphins. They were diving quite a bit and were quite distant.
So we then continued and one of our boats tried to find sperm whales with the hydrophone and succeeded! We were soon with a pod of sperm whales, a total of about 3 or 4.
They were also in foraging behaviour, so we managed to see their flukes, and we recorded their clicks as well.
It was another great day out in the ocean. Join us in our whale and dolphin trips in the Azores!
