Fantastic whale watching tours in the Azores

Today it has been a fantastic day out in the ocean, in São Miguel Island.

Bottlenose dolphins are still around 🙂

We saw a big fin whale for the first
time in the last couple of months. Is it late on its migration? Or maybe it is
remaining here a bit longer?? We don’t know yet… but check the poster thatVíctor presented this year in the European Cetacean Society Congress to findout more!

In the morning we saw as well as a big male sperm whale, doing
very long mid water dives. Did you know that male sperm whales are much bigger
than females and they have a huge head?? Look at the photos and check out ourblog to know more about differences between males and females in cetaceans.

Today we had a cloudy day in Pico Island.
It was the first time our marine biologist Rui Santos (who’s been doing whale
watching tours for around 10 years) managed to take a picture of the same sperm
whale within a 40 minutes interval. Normally, female sperm whales dive for around 45 minutes.

It was a well known individual here in
Pico. It was diving deep to reach its favourite snack: squid.

After that we
also found a group of around 10 bottlenose dolphins.
