This morning in Pico, the sea brought us an amazing sighting over a beautiful pod of about 50 curious striped dolphins bow-riding and swimming along our boat. This is a rare behaviour in the Azores, as in most sightings we make about striped dolphins, they typically adopt an elusive behaviour towards the boat.
Besides this approaching to the boat, they seemed to be having social behaviour between them, chasing each other underwater and displaying amazing fast and long jumps above the surface, from one wave to another!
We also met a loggerhead turtle of about 55cm catching the sun rays near the surface to warm its cold blood. Under the turtle, we found one pilot fish maybe hiding at its shade together with a school of small fishes that probably were feeding on the turtle’s algae.
