This year, for the second year in a row, Futurismo was present at the International Whale Watch Conference during November 4th and 5th followed by the World Whale Conference on November 6th and 7th. The conferences were held in Gloucester, Massachusetts and were attended by many whale watching tour operators, NGO’s and individuals who are working towards sustainable and responsible whale and dolphin watching and the protection of cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) and the environment in which they live. This year Futurismo has become a member of both the Planet Whale Responsible Whale Watch Partnership
and the World Cetacean Alliance (WCA). Two hot topics under discussion during the World Whale Conference were protecting the critically endangered Maui’s dolphins in New Zealand and putting and end to orca captivity, in particular Morgan who is held in Loro Parque in Tenerife, Spain. These areas of concern were prioritised by the global community through a mapping survey during recent months. You still have the chance to have your say by mapping out your areas of concern for whales or dolphins using the FREE ONLINE SURVEY. Every time the public circles an areas they are concerned about, that place gets HOTTER. The hotter the place, the more pressure the WCA will be able to apply to get the protection in that location. You can follow the WCA’s efforts online to stay up to date with what is going on.
