Today we went to see whales and dolphins out of São Miguel. In both morning and afternoon tours we spotted the same two resident species, sperm whale and common dolphin. The group of female sperm whales spotted in the morning was the group of “Orca” , one of the sperm whale that we know really good by the pigmentation from the dorsal protuberance.
Then in the afternoon we were with another group of female sperm whales in an area quite far from the morning group. One thing that we could say is that we have reproductive successful groups of females because these two groups sighted today have babies. The group of common dolphins was spotted in both tours in areas quite close.
Meet Teo, he’s a 4 years old boy from Reus, Cataluña, Spain. Teo wants to learn how to look for whales just like our lookouts do. After this morning trip, he waited for us near the store and tested the binoculars himself
