4 species of dolphins sighted in a morning with variable weather

Today was a morning for the adventurous among us; a day of very interchangeable weather conditions. Our day started off dry with a very calm sea. In these conditions we encountered striped dolphins shooting out of the water.

In this same area we managed to find a really nice group of Risso’s dolphins. The pod consisted of about 15 individuals, slowly gliding through the surface.

After spending some time with the Risso’s we lost visibility, it started raining, and the lookouts  could not see much, so we were on our own searching for some other species. In the other boats they managed to see some spotted dolphins quite far off the coast and these dolphins were traveling very fast. Then our tour of the swimming with dolphins activity managed to find some beaked whales!

After the weather cleared up again, our lookouts led us to a small pod of common dolphins, that were quite spread out. They seemed to be traveling as well, and did not mind the waves that we had in this  area.

Once we saw the common dolphins really well we started on our way back, when it started to rain the whole time. However, regardless of the weather conditions, we managed to see 3 species really well. It was an adventurous day which we ended with a nice cup of tea back in the office. Searching for marine mammals at sea is not always an easy task! But we made it!
