Today we only had a trip in the morning due to the increased wind making it impossible to navigate by the afternoon.
But luckily for us, we sighted three resident species, starting with the common dolphins right out of Ponta Delgada. It was a huge group that got curious towards the boats with some fast and playful swims.
Soon we left them as our boats were doing swimming with dolphins so they could be more comfortable and our lookouts were sighting some bottlenose dolphins more to the west of Ponta Delgada that were even mixed with a small number of Atlantic spotted dolphins for some time before they split up.
After that our catamaran “called” the dolphins to him and they were bow-riding, jumping and just enjoying our company there!
We wanted to see something more and our team with the help of the hydrophone and the lookouts took us to an area where soon after we arrived a sperm whale appeared close to the boat just to hyperventilate and rest before quickly going back to the deep to feed.
